September 5th, 2008 – 14 years after the birth of a dream. The number 5 is non-accidental, deeply symbolic and… we will pay special attention to it in some of the following stories.

The story of a bar, that started as a childhood dream come true, actually turned out to be fundamental for the development of… the term “bar” not just here, but in other lands too, the music scene of Sofia, its night and day residents… and the lively heartbeat of the city as whole.

Kiril Cheshmedzhiev and Radoslav Mirchev are two guys who are inspired by the most diverse musical styles, pleasant conversations about everything and the various concepts of a party.. until the morning. They dreamt of opening a bar where they can gather and have fun with more of “their kind” of people.

They met in “The Program” as if by chance, without suspecting that together they will write a story suitable for at least 5 issues of the emblematic magazine reflecting the most current cultural events in Sofia. Well, the opening of Bar Petak is definitely one of those events – it left a mark, continuing to this day to add touches to the heart of the capital.

At one point, Kiro and Rado decided that they will make their dream come true. So they started walking around the center of Sofia for a long time and finally they came across the small space on Vasil Levski Blvd. It turned out that there is currently no better place in this area of the city.

At the beginning, they had no idea what they were getting themselves into, which they decided to view as a positive rather than a negative thing. To this day they are still students at the Petak Open University.

In the beginning, everything looked like an upgraded version of Rado’ s living room, where he invites his friends to listen to some good music and have a great time until the wee hours. In short… the two young men ended up with a functioning bar in the heart of Sofia – with only 1 bar (currently the upstairs bar), chairs without seats, warm beer without a fridge, something like a toilet and an inexplicable belief in success.

The opening in 2008 was spectacular and was key for what was to come – 14 years of legendary celebrations of this bar. Despite the old bar being small, it felt big with its long bar with many stools, a large booth, a central bar and countless hidden corners where you can hide with whoever you want. The interior was done in the style of a beach hut, where friends would meet every night to spend time with each other and meet new people.Conversations about the Universe, music lovers’ gatherings, songs, dances, falling, getting up… the beginning of several generations of Petak kids. Themed events and DJ evenings mixed with the sounds of funk, swing, jazz, reggae, Latin, trip or hip …hop, electronic, drum and bass, trap, soul and what not. The music is loud because everyday is Petak(Friday). It is the same today.

In the cult years of Boul. Vasil Levski 67 the bartenders were three and they worked there since the birth of the bar – Ivan, Marian and Sasho a.k.a. Petak’s founding fathers of the drinks.

The drinks are many and even though they made you forget, they remained memorable as the most permanent emblems of Petak remain to this day: the mulled wine, the Russian breakfast a.k.a. Bloody Mary and homemade lemonade.

On December 31, 2014, Bar Petak had to leave its birthplace. After this date, the bar and the entire team go on a break for an unknown period. It turns out to be 1 year and 4 months, during which Petak society continues to live in the air, in an intangible but avalanche-like form gaining strength.

The Petak Academy of the Ignorant continues to enlighten all the chosen ones until the bar materializes in a new, larger and more promising space on Gen Street. Gurko 21, in which history is still being written.
